CLUBE JUVENTUDE LUSITANA

Clube Juventude Lusitana wanted to preserve the Portuguese culture in Cumberland RI, therefore developed a Sports Division along with Cultural Division with the Philharmonic Band noticing that one of the most important aspects of the culture was left behind, “The Language” so in 1929 the Escola Portuguesa was founded in partnership with the Clube. Being a challenge to find a teacher, a group of volunteers lead by the local Priest, the Escola started teaching classes and ever since we have been a leader in Portuguese education within the community.

A HIDDEN GEM IN CUMBERLAND

The Portuguese School is recognized as an exemplary school, teaching the Portuguese language and culture with over 90 years of excellence. Our Portuguese School Curriculum encompasses all levels from ages 6-17, and focuses on the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing through culture, history and values for beginners, intermediate and advance classes.

We have made changes to offer a more flexible environment. Currently providing in-person classes every Monday and Wednesdays from 4:30 - 6:30 pm; also virtual learning when applicable, following the state and health regulations of the pandemic; keeping the Portuguese language alive in our community.
